Emperor Maximilian I, self-styled »Last Knight« and »Father of the Landsknechte soldiers« bridges the chivalrous ideal of medieval times and the modern era in a new, pioneering military section. The exhibition reveals the exciting juxtaposition of these two groups, highlighting differences in areas including social background, clothing, combat styles and much more. Another exciting voyage through time in the extensive range offered at Kufstein fortress.

Permanent exhibition in the Fuchsturm

Here you are in the centre of history.

On the ground floor in the Fuchsturm an impressive 270° projection, which draws you into the midst of all the action, awaits. A rousing film provides you with all the information you need about how Kufstein fortress came to be, the spirited disputes and claims to power. An enormous map on the top floor invites you to find out about the cities and towns using digital telescopes, and to load more exciting information and video sequences on the screen. Awaken your spirit of exploration!

The erstwhile state prison awaits. As do goose bumps.

You won’t be able to get this exhibition, designed and built from scratch in the former state prison, out of your mind! In the cell block, you might well feel a shiver down your spine; if only these walls could talk! However, it is a convict who does the talking. He recounts his sad and touching story – intriguingly vivid – is this perhaps a genuine fortress ghost? After a seemingly supernatural encounter many people need a little sit-down and that is when we consolidate your knowledge about the convicts and their fates, in a straightforward, interactive manner using one of the many tablet computers. In a nutshell – you just have to go to the slammer!

with a concert by the »Austrian Baroque Company« beforehand at 6:00 p.m

Who better to render homage to the emperor than the pure, divine voices of the Vienna Sängerknaben, Augsburger Domsingknaben, Wiltener Sängerknaben and Regensburger Domspatzen? Pay a visit to this unique gathering of internationally renowned boys’ choirs, all of which date back to the time of Emperor Maximilian. Indeed, the Vienna Sängerknaben were founded by him.

The concert beforehand by the »Austrian Baroque Company« takes place at 6:00 p.m. in the Kaiserturm, while the main concert will take place from 7:30 p.m. in the Festungsarena. Advance ticket sales available at Bürgerservice or TVB Kufsteinerland

The Knights’ Festival at Pentecost, particularly in this anniversary year, is one of the highlights at Kufstein fortress. More than 500 participants fill the entire fortress facility with medieval life and all kinds of shenanigans. Mix with foot soldiers, and maybe be called to enjoy an audience with Emperor Maximilian.
